The records of the North Carolina State University Title IX Advisory Committee range in dates from 1972 to 1976. The records contain memoranda from acting Chancellor J. A. Rigney giving unit coordinators regulations and other material related to Title IX. The records also contain a list of student surveys regarding Title IX, a list of organizations and subcommittees, records of meetings of Title IX Compliance Officers and the final Title IX regulation implementing the Education Amendments of 1972. Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972 is the federal law that bans sex discrimination in schools, whether it is in academics or athletics. Title IX states, “No Person in the U.S. shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, or denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance." In November 1975, acting Chancellor J. A. Rigney of North Carolina State University appointed a committee to advise on implementation of Title IX at NC State.
